Fssai Registration/Licence

Anyone working in the food industry must register with the FSSAI. If you're in the food processing, manufacturing, packaging, distributing, or retailing sector, you'll require an FSSAI registration.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issues the registration/license, which is an organisation that monitors food enterprises under the FSSAI Act 2006's standards and regulations.

FSSAI is an abbreviation for the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. Before launching a food business, you must first obtain an FSSAI license. All food makers, traders, and restaurants are required to get a 14-digit registration or license number, which must be posted on food products. The government's food licensing and registration system takes this step to ensure that food products are subjected to quality checks, reducing instances of adulteration and inferior products and boosting manufacturer accountability by providing food service licenses.

WHY FSSAI IS REQUIRED?


There are several conditions that must be met by every food operator under the FSSAI Act, 2006. Every food operator would be required to get this license from the relevant authority under sections 31(1) and 31(2) of the Act.

The terms "FSSAI license" and "FSSAI registration" are not interchangeable because they are defined by the size of the business. Every food-related business would be required to register with the FSSAI online.

Previously, the Food Licensing and Registration System was used to complete the FSSAI registration process (FLRS). The Food Safety and Compliance System (FosCos) has been in existence since November 2020, replacing the previous system (FLRS). This is a critical update that must be followed exactly.

If an applicant requires a new license, he or she must use the FosCos system. Any registered user who had a license under the prior system will need to double-check the licensing details under FosCos.

The user will be assigned a 14-digit number once the business has been registered. This number is made up of five distinct parts, each of which is distinct in its own manner. This number must be present wherever the company operates. Aside from that, the number must be attached to all product packages.

FBOs, or Food Business Operators, are operators who deal with food goods under this system. The food business operator, as defined in section 3 of the Act, is an individual or business owner who takes all precautions and measures to ensure compliance and is present under the Act.

  • IEC (Import Export Code) Certificate.
  • Blueprint/layout plan of the processing unit showing the dimensions in meters/square meters.
  • Analysis report (Chemical & Bacteriological) of water to be used as ingredient in food from a recognized/ public health laboratory to confirm the portability.
  • Photograph of the processing unit.

  • Is FSSAI registration mandatory?

    Every food business operator who manufactures, processes, stores, distributes, or sells food must obtain an FSSAI Registration or License.

  • What happens if I don’t have FSSAI license?

    If a person or a food business operator (except those exempted from licensing) who is required to obtain a license fails to do so and manufactures, trades, sells, or distributes any food item without a license, they may be sentenced to up to 6 months in prison and a fine of up to Rs. 5,00,000 in fines.

  • When FSSAI is required?

    Before starting any food business in India, one must first obtain an FSSAI license. All food traders, manufacturers, and restaurants are required to get a 14-digit license number that is printed on their food items.

  • Can FSSAI license be transferred?
    A legal representative or any family member of the person who died with the FSSAI license can receive the FSSAI license. The legal family member or agent should request that the certificate be transferred to the appropriate authorities in his or her name.
  • Is FSSAI required for homemade food?
    Yes, you'll need a food license from the FSSAI to sell handmade food, but if you're doing it on a small scale, you'll only need to register.
